  1.                     KERATOMETER MEASURING TECHNIQUE

  3. Focusing the Eyepiece
  4.  
  5. Before taking a measurement, the 
  6. eyepiece should be focused.  By 
  7. holding a white surface before 
  8. the objective (or rotating the 
  9. cover, if it is white, down in front 
  10. of the objective) and looking 
  11. through the eyepiece a cross-hair 
  12. will be seen.  The eyepiece should 
  13. be rotated counter-clockwise 
  14. until the cross-hair blurs, then 
  15. rotated back clockwise until the 
  16. cross-hair just comes into focus.

  18. If different clinicans use the keratometer 
  19. this should be done each time it is used.  
  20. If the same person uses it all the time the 
  21. focus only needs checked periodically.
